Published to YouTube on March 6, 2012, this advertisement for the then young startup, Dollar Shave Club, went viral. Dollar Shave Club is a service that will send its customers four brand new razors every month. The focus of the ad is on the CEO of the company giving a tour of their distribution center. The tour is no ordinary one as it is filled with countless gags and random jokes that create an atmosphere of humorous chaos. Utilizing humorous gags and a sense of chaos along with appealing to the audience’s emotions, logic, and establishing credibility through the use if their CEO, Dollar Shave Club attempts to sell their service to men who seek greater convenience. The creator of this advertisement is Michael Dubin, the founder and CEO†¦show more content†¦The toys, along with his clothing, conjure more feelings of a relaxed and unserious tone. The opening scene opens with ethos. By explaining to the audience that he is the founder and CEO of Dollar Shave Club, it evokes a feeling of trust in what he says. To become the CEO of a company he must be an intelligent man right? Even though the man is wearing a crooked tie, people will still want to trust him. The use of their CEO is crucial to Dollar Shave Club’s success. Using an actor would have eliminated the personal touch the use of their CEO created and would have gotten rid of any ethos arguments. The ad also built some credibility by having a man as a CEO and star of the ad. Men are seen as big and hairy things that require shaving on the daily. Even though women also shave, men are still seen as the primary audience for this ad and so a male CEO establishes credibility among men. A female actor would immediately detract from the primary audience of the ad. Logos is also prevalent in the opening scene of the advertisement. â€Å"For a dollar a month we send high quality razors right to your door† says Dubin. This line gets the audience’s attention by setting up some logical appeals. The first logical appeal is that it costs a single dollar a month, a far cry from the twenty that other companies charge.
